Autoplay and Reverse Withdrawals Banned in Sweden

Autoplay and Reverse Withdrawals Banned in Sweden

In Sweden, autoplay and reverse withdrawals are now prohibited as decided by the Spelinspektionen. There have been other changes to the regulations as well, with different measures implemented to protect players in the Scandinavian nation.聽

Until recently, it was still possible to cancel a payout after it was requested. Due to the new law change, this option is no longer available whilst the same holds for the autoplay feature which lets the player keep on playing in the auto mode without having to push on the play button. The autoplay ban applies to both a defined and an indefinite number of spins.

The new rules also state that licensees are not allowed to make any suggestions to players about their stakes, loss or time limits, the Swedish regulator said. In addition to the above measures, a player must be automatically logged out, or given the option to remain logged in, after two minutes of no recorded activity on the website.

Updated Responsible Gambling Regulations

Rules in terms of tracking and reporting will also change. Gambling operators are now required to report the number of players that have a deposit limit higher than SEK 10,000 (NZ$ 1.548) per month. The number of players who have reached their time limit or deposit limit will have to be reported as well by each casino to Spelinspektionen. The same holds for the number of players who have engaged into play after having opted for the self-exclusion option. The changes made to the rules aim to better protect players from gambling risks are meant to make it easier to track the progress made by operators in this respect.

These two rules may be unpopular with some players and it is very likely that there will be some sort of reaction from players who traditionally make a lot of use of these features and find out that these aren鈥檛 available anymore. We therefore believe it is necessary to clearly communicate to players that the above measures have been taken due to their risks as the features are often associated with problem gambling.

Autoplay Banned in Different Countries

Autoplay is not only banned in Sweden, but isn鈥檛 allowed anymore in other regions such as the United Kingdom and Ontario in Canada whilst the Dutch gambling authority Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has requested a study about the consequences of autoplay. For Kiwis who sign up to offshore casinos, the autoplay feature will be available as the market has not yet been regulated in New Zealand. Kiwis are allowed to play at foreign casinos. It is always recommended to stick to online casinos that are licenced, preferably in Europe.
